Do You Need a Cover for the Mimos Pillow? Hygiene, Washing and Breathability Explained

The Mimos Pillow can be used and washed.

However, adding a breathable cover can make everyday hygiene considerably easier. It provides a removable outer layer that can be washed separately whenever needed.

Why use a cover if the pillow is washable?

Babies naturally create small everyday messes. A removable cover makes it easier to deal with milk, dribble and other marks without needing to wash and dry the complete pillow every time.

The main benefits include:

  • Easier everyday hygiene
  • Quick removal for separate washing
  • Helps keep the pillow’s surface cleaner
  • Less waiting while the pillow is being washed or air-dried
  • The option to keep a spare clean cover ready

The cover remains optional. The Mimos Pillow should still be cleaned whenever necessary, following the supplied care instructions.

Does the cover affect breathability?

A carbon dioxide rebreathing assessment compared a Mimos Pillow with and without the tested Mimos pillowcase.

The assessment used a mechanical breathing setup with a 5% carbon dioxide gas mixture at 25 breaths per minute. Each sample was assessed five times, and the carbon dioxide-versus-time area under the curve was calculated.

The recorded results were:

  • Mimos Pillow without the pillowcase: 155.02
  • Mimos Pillow with the tested pillowcase: 119.72

This represents an approximately 22.8% lower area-under-the-curve measurement with the tested pillowcase fitted. The report stated that carbon dioxide retention decreased further when the pillowcase was applied.

In practical terms, the tested pillowcase did not increase measured carbon dioxide retention under the assessment conditions.

How do I choose the correct Mimos cover?

Choose a cover that matches the size of your Mimos Pillow. If you are uncertain about the size, check the pillow label and follow the current Mimos sizing guidance.

Available designs include:

Keeping two covers can be particularly convenient: one can be used while the other is being washed and dried.

Washing and care

Always follow the care label supplied with the pillow and cover. Allow both items to dry fully before use.

The cover provides a convenient hygiene layer, but it does not replace cleaning the pillow itself whenever required.

In summary

The Mimos Pillow is washable and does not require a cover. We recommend an optional, correctly sized Mimos cover because it makes everyday cleaning easier and helps you keep a clean surface ready while another cover—or the pillow itself—is being washed and dried.
